English Functional Skills Entry Level 2 Reading – Using a Dictionary

This resource has been designed for students working towards Entry Level 2 Functional Skills English certification. It contains an age-appropriate, 30-page workbook with answers on the Entry Level 2 reading component – Use knowledge of alphabetical order to locate information. It specifically focuses on using a dictionary to find out the meaning of words and to check spelling. The workbook contains six information/explanation sheets, 22 worksheets and two progress checks.

The tasks have been designed to achieve the following learning outcomes:

to use knowledge of alphabetical order to locate information
to locate a word in a dictionary
to understand the terminology ‘guide words’ and to know how to use them when looking for a word in the dictionary
to use a dictionary to find out the meanings of words
to use a dictionary to check the spellings of words
