English Functional Skills – Entry Level 3 – Writing Composition

This bundle contains resources that have been designed for students working towards Entry Level 3 Functional Skills English qualifications (Edexcel, City and Guilds, NCFE). It contains an age-appropriate, 70-page workbook and a 170-slide PowerPoint lesson on the Entry Level 3 writing composition component.

Workbook

The 70-page workbook contains 22 information/revision pages, 43 worksheets and two progress checks. Tasks include:

writing compound sentences
writing paragraphs
deciding when to use formal/ informal language
writing in standard English
using appropriate format and structure
using titles, headings, subheadings
using bullet points and numbered lists

The workbook will help the students to achieve the following learning outcomes:

Communicate information, ideas and opinions clearly and in a logical sequence
(e.g. chronologically, by task)
Write text of an appropriate level of detail and of appropriate length (including
where this is specified)
Use appropriate format and structure when writing straightforward texts,
including the appropriate use of headings and bullet points
Write in compound sentences and paragraphs where appropriate
Use language appropriate for purpose and audience
