Functional Skills English – Entry Level 3 – Writing – Alphabetical Order

This resource has been designed for students working towards Entry Level 3 Functional Skills English certification. It contains an age-appropriate, 95-slide PowerPoint lesson and a 25 page workbook on the Entry Level 3 writing component – use the first, second and third letters to sequence words in alphabetical.

PowerPoint Lesson

The PowerPoint explains why knowing alphabetical order is an important skill. It clearly and visually demonstrates how to place words in alphabetical order to the first, second and third letter. The PowerPoint provides many examples and opportunities for students to place items in alphabetical order. There are also tasks that involve students identifying where patients’ records can be found in a filing system and where CDs can be found in boxes.

The PowerPoint also contains a link to a short video explaining alphabetical order.

Workbook

The workbook contains five explanation pages, fifteen worksheets and a progress check. The workbook provides many opportunities for students to practise sequencing words in alphabetical order to the first, second and third letter.
