This resource has been designed for students working towards Functional Skills Maths qualifications at Entry Level 1. It contains an age-appropriate, editable, 75-slide Powerpoint lesson on the weight component of outcome 8 in the ‘Using Common Measures Shape and Space’ specification – describe and make comparisons in words between measures of items including size, length, width, height, weight and capacity.
The PowerPoint explains how to describe and compare the weight of items and objects, it explains how balance scales work and it also contains some reasoning and problem solving tasks on the comparison of weight.
The PowerPoint will help pupils to achieve the following outcome:
to use the words heavy, heavier, heaviest, light, lighter and lightest to describe and compare the weight of objects.
